THE NUMBER of new Covid-19 infections in Slovenia has decreased compared to two weeks ago, Slovenian government spokesman Jelko Kacin said on Tuesday, warning Slovenian tourists nevertheless to take care of their health while travelling abroad.

"Epidemiological data in Slovenia over the past few days is very good and it is significantly better than two weeks ago. Slovenia is in the green zone as a very safe destination," Kacin told a press conference.

He added that according to the latest data, in the past 14 days there have been only 8 new cases per 100,000 residents in the country, which, according to criteria the government has adopted, ranks Slovenia in the "green" zone whereas Croatia, for example, is in the "yellow" zone for safety as it has twice as many infections per 100,000 residents.

The main cause for concern is the behaviour of young people in large crowds who are not taking care of themselves and are not adhering to epidemiological measures both in the country and abroad.

Comparisons with Croatia

According to Kacin, the epidemiological situation in Croatia is fairly favourable even though the number of cases is higher than in Slovenia and the situation in the Adriatic and most counties that Slovenian tourists visit is favourable.

He called on young Slovenians to avoid crowds and other situations where they could be infected.

Kacin warned that recently Slovenia has registered more "imported" cases of the virus.

He warned that anyone spending time in Balkan countries on the "red" list such as Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Kosovo will have to spend two weeks in quarantine after returning from those countries.
